Works well, but pricey
By Jason
The price for this could be a little lower considering that you have to buy an app for fifty bucks to use it if you don't already use one of the 2 supported Garmin apps. That said, this is definitely a safer way to navigate around as opposed to traditional GPS units or phones. Mine sits right about eye level with the top of my steering wheel so I barely have to look down to check distance or a turn.

I ended up using the plastic snap-on reflector because I couldn't get the images to project low enough on my windshield and use the film. I blame that on the curve and slope of the dashboard in my Mazda though. I'm using the Navigon app with an iPhone and everything connected without any problems.

Overall, it works pretty well and makes navigation seem safer. Plus it looks cool. 4 stars though for the expensive app purchase and for needing external power.

Works as advertised but wanting more...
By Bradley Husick
I generally echo the other comments in the reviews so far. It's quite easy to see, especially with the plastic reflective panel in place. There is a bug in the Navigon software interface to the HUD in that it displays your speed in KPH whenever it doesn't know the posted limit on the street you're driving. When it does know the limit it properly displays MPH (I live in the US).

I do wish the display was user configurable to show different data based on preferences. The arrows are a bit simple and it would be great to see the street name for the upcoming turn. The characters used for your speed are also a bit small. I feel that not much effort was put into user interface design for the display.

Also, the HUD information will go away when you switch from the Navigon app to any other app or turn off the phone's screen, even if the app is still running. I see this as a problem that should be fixed. ***UPDATE - It appears this has been fixed - you can switch away from Navigon and the HUD will still display upcoming directions!

The power cord is plenty long enough and does offer a USB port in the plug. The HUD feels very well made and sturdy.

Great accessory
By Dave Edmiston
EDIT: See the updated note below.

This is a great accessory for my Navigon app on my iPhone. It took me awhile to figure out why they delayed the release as long as they did, but then I figured out that they linked the release with the iOS 7 release (and jacked up the price from their original MSRP).

I love this accessory. It does a lot to improve the usefulness of the Navigon app and gives me some great data while I drive.

It displays:

* Estimated arrival time
* Turn directions
* Lane selection (very helpful)
* Your speed and the speed limit
* Traffic camera alerts

These are really great features.

The traffic camera alert pops up in red. This is a huge help, except that it doesn't remain lit very long. If you miss it, you miss it. It would be better if it would stay lit until you pass through the intersection.

If you're just driving freestyle and don't have an active route in the GPS app, then it shows your compass direction (North, East, South, West) and speed. The compass direction is OK, but it would be nice if there were more than just the four compass points. NE, SE, SW, & NW would be nice too, but that's not a big deal.

The speed & speed limit display is fantastic. Sure I can look down at my speedometer to see how fast I'm going, but it's nice to have it in a head's up display (HUD) instead of down in the console. Plus the addition of the speed limit makes it easy to see how fast I'm going compared to the legal limit.

The Bluetooth pairing was effortless. Some BT devices are a pain in the neck, but this one pairs up very easily.

As much as I love this accessory though, it has quite a few flaws:

* Power cord: Why did they have to use their own power cord? Why couldn't they use a standard connection like a mini or micro USB? It bugs me to have to use yet another power cord. And I thought I had read in an early product review that this was rechargeable. It doesn't have a battery though, so you have to leave it plugged in all the time, which means yet another cable on your dash. Make sure to plug it into a cig outlet that turns off when you shut off your ignition. That way you won't have to mess with the BT pairing, because it automatically hunts for your iPhone to pair up when you start your ignition and it powers up.

* Windshield sticker: The plastic that you're supposed to stick on the windshield was scratched from shipping. I decided not to use it and used the snap-on plastic shield instead. I think I like the shield better anyway, because I don't have to worry about aligning it perfectly with the device. If the HUD scoots around a little bit, so does it's shield.

* HUD Shield: I like the snap-on plastic HUD shield, but the rigid pieces that snap it on are very brittle and it doesn't adjust up/down. Since this can't be adjusted and it's standing up erectly all the time, you can't fold it down when it's not in use or when you move it to another vehicle. I'm willing to bet this plastic piece will break someday. I assume it will be difficult/expensive to replace.

* Crazy Data: If you're on a small road with no posted speed limit, it can't show your speed compared to the speed limit, so it just makes something up. I never drive more than 20 mph down my own street, but this shows me driving anywhere from 30 mph to 67 mph. That's insane. When I look down at my Navigon app it shows I'm only doing 20 mph, but the HUD shows I'm going over 60. That's a bad bug. (EDIT: As someone commented below, this weird speed number appears to be kilometers per hour instead of MPH. I haven't completely verified this, because I'm not smart enough to convert metric and safely drive. It seems pretty plausible though.)

In general I really love this. Hopefully the price comes way down and hopefully they fix some of these software and hardware issues.

EDIT (10/2/13): They released a fix in the Navagon app. I was surprised that the fix was to the iPhone app and not to the device. The KPH/MPH issue is fixed now.
